Where is Northeastern Ontario?

Northeastern Ontario is a large, diverse and dynamic region. It spans from Manitoulin Island in Lake Huron, across the Greater Sudbury Area and North Bay on Lake Nipissing, reaching all the way north to the shores of James Bay.

The region is best explored by car or motorcycle, although regularly scheduled domestic flights operate out of airports in Sudbury, North Bay and Timmins. Regional train service is also available.

Ride the rails

All aboard! Ride the rails from the town of Moosonee to Cochrane. View the scenery and watch for the northern lights from a seat on Ontario Northland’s Polar Bear Express train.

Go on a fishing excursion

With countless lakes, rivers and waterways, Northeastern Ontario is the ideal fishing spot. Check into a lodge, book a fly-in tour or cast a line off the nearest dock and try your luck.

Visit unique urban communities

Ontario’s north is more than wilderness. Explore communities like Sudbury, North Bay or Cochrane. Find craft breweries, art galleries and farmers’ markets selling local produce and more.

Tour by motorcycle

Check off a beautiful, bucket-list motorcycle tour. Load up your camping gear and set out on the Manitoulin Island Tour, Georgian Bay Coastal Route or Lake Temiskaming Loop Tour.
